The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) have clarified the position of First Aid Training during the latest coronavirus lockdown.

In England the policy position of the HSE is that first aid training required to comply with health and safety or other legislation can continue to take place under relevant coronavirus restrictions in England. All possible measures must be taken to ensure that both the training activities and environment are COVID-19 secure.

Under current restrictions, some premises are closed to the public or are prohibited from carrying out their normal business. These premises can be considered for use as training venue, providing the conditions outlined above are adhered to.

All businesses and individuals should adhere to current regulations and follow relevant Government guidance.

HSE's current guidance on first aid certificate extensions remains unaltered. This means that currently the latest that any first aid qualifications are extended to is 31 March 2021 (provided that this is within 6 months of the current certificate expiry date).

Paediatric First Aid Certificate Extension and Requalification

The Department for Education (DfE) have published an extension to the requalification of paediatric first aid certificate if requalification training is prevented for reasons associated directly with the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, or by complying with related government advice.

In these cases, certificates have been extended to 31 March 2021. Please note this only applies to certificates expiring on or after 1 October 2020.

Confirmation of this change can be found on the Department for Education website under section 7.2.

Update on training with Underwood Training

We continue to deliver COVID-19 secure training - please see our previous blog article on this for full details. If you wish to see a copy of our COVID-19 risk assessment prior to booking on or attending a course, please contact us.

Although we have a published open course programme, this is flexible to meet the needs of our clients and also the availability of our training team (they joys of home schooling have been a new revelation to those with children in reception!). Some clients who are not essential workers have understandably chosen to postpone their training, however we are seeking to ensure that courses for essential workers are able to run.   This means that we are sometimes we are putting on additional courses to meet demand.
