December 2015

Rebecca Dec 15
Due to the arrival of Rebecca Claire in September I've not managed to get a newsletter out this term... She is now 14 weeks old, and already is quite the little character keeping Steven and myself on our toes! Massive thanks to Helena in the office and to Brian and Fran who have covered the bulk of all training courses this term between them. Other projects have included the development of our new website, which will go live over the Christmas period and the start-up of the Anaphylaxis and Allergy Support Group for Leeds (which is in a voluntary capacity and not part of work - however I'm using work as a way to promote the group!). All in all it's been a rather busy last 4 months!
I'm looking forward to some time with friends and family over Christmas and wish you a restful break and every success for 2016.

Best wishes,
Christmas Opening
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from the team at Underwood Training. Our usual office hours are Tuesday - Friday 9am - 2.30pm; outside of these times please contact Helen via the mobile number 07971 298 265 or email us and we will respond on the next working day. Instead of sending Christmas cards this year, we have donated money to the Anaphylaxis Campaign.

Christmas closing: We will be closing the office at midday on Friday 18th December 2015 and re-opening on Tuesday 5th January 2016.  If you have any urgent queries over the holidays please contact Helen via the mobile number. Any certificates arriving from our Awarding Organisation that arrive after Friday will be posted out in the New Year.

From the HSE Myth busters: '
Workers are banned from putting up Christmas decorations in the office
' - no they are not!!

2015 CPR Update
CPR The Resuscitation Council UK guidelines for CPR have now been published. The great news for first aiders is that although there are subtle changes to the CPR protocol, the ratio of compressions to breaths remains at 30 : 2 and the speed and depth of compressions is unaltered. For children/infants the initial 5 rescue breaths before commencing CPR remains in place.

We are awaiting the decision concerning exactly what changes are to affect first aid as opposed to healthcare settings; there may also be changes to areas of first aid other than CPR. We will update you in detail via the newsletter when the changes for first aiders are known.

Anaphylaxis Support Group - Leeds - Successful 1st meeting
Anaphylaxis Campaign Logo
Our first meeting on 24 October had over 20 people in attendance with very little advertising on the part of myself or Sarah my co-support group host! We also heard from a number of folk who would have liked to attend but due to it being on a half-term weekend they were away.

The consensus from those who were there was that it was really helpful to meet other families who have severe/life-threatening allergies and that the group is much needed. Subject to availability of the meeting room, we plan to hold another similar event end of February/beginning of March - avoiding half-term. Also in the pipeline are some events with key speakers.

The group has a Facebook Page - Search for 'Allergy & Anaphylaxis Support - Leeds Group' once you have logged into your Facebook Account. All events will be publicised on the Facebook page as well as through the Anaphylaxis Campaign Support Group network pages; I'll also notify folk through this newsletter.
