Winter 2016

Doesn't time fly when you are both running a business and being a mum... I've decided to formally rename our monthly newsletters  'quarterly newsletters' as this is far more realistic!
Being now 15 months old, and very on the go, Rebecca is loving all things with twinkly lights, so Christmas this year is going to be much more magical.
Some of our clients are aware that we are having to slightly increase our course fees from 1szt January 2017 due to increasing supplier and venue costs. We have not taken this decision lightly, however if you want to get in touch this week to book training in the next quarter, we will honour our current prices.
I hope that you have a lovely break over Christmas with friends and family and wish you every success for 2017.
                Best wishes,

Christmas Opening Hours
Our last day of work before the Christmas break is Friday 16 December 2016 when we will be closing mid-afternoon.
We will be back in the office/ delivering training courses on Tuesday 3rd January 2017.

If you have an urgent query during this time you can contact Helen on her mobile number during the first week of our 2-week shut down.

Martin House - our Christmas charity for 2017
Martin House logo
Rather than send lots of Christmas cards to clients I have always donated money to a charity in lieu of Christmas cards.
This year, I have chosen Martin House, the children's hospice as our Christmas charity. The reason for this is that I was privileged to know and be a part of Grace's life this past year. She was born a few weeks after my daughter Rebecca but was unfortunately diagnosed with a terminal illness and left us in July. The support that Martin House and its staff have given to my friends Grace's parents has been invaluable and there is no way to express our thanks to them enough.  To check out Martin House click here.

ABCDE First Aid Manual 2nd Edition
ABCDE 2nd Edition I'm excited to inform you that the second edition of the ABCDE First Aid Training manual is currently mid printing process as I type.

Although we would have loved to have got this out some months ago, we were awaiting clarification from the HSE followed by our Ofqual Awarding Organisation concerning the level at which to teach key new information, and also confirmation concerning which of the European Resuscitation Council recommendations for changes to general first aid have been adopted.

Candidates attending courses from 1st January 2017 will be receiving the new manual as a part of their course. It retails at £10.99.

Updated areas in the manual include:
- the use of tourniquets and haemostatic dressings for certain work industries
- update to management of a suspected spinal and/or pelvis injury
- change to treatment for 'sucking chest wounds'
- Resuscitation Council CPR and AED guidelines
- minor updates to various medical conditions including Anaphylaxis and Hyperventilation
        - updates on first aid kit recommendations including use of hydrogel burns dressings

Anaphylaxis Campaign - Leeds Support Group
Anaphylaxis Campaign Logo
Helen is the Leeds Support Group host for the Anaphylaxis Campaign charity (not linked with Underwood Training, but this newsletter is a great way to get the message out!).
