Emergency First Aid At Work
An Appointed Person for the workplace in first aid legislation terms is someone who is responsible for keeping the first aid kit stocked, and for ensuring that an ambulance is called if needed in an emergency situation. An Appointed Person should not be expected to give any first aid treatment in their workplace for which they have not been trained.
The longer course First Aid at Work (HSE set syllabus) is delivered over a minimum of 3 days – a big commitment in terms of work time lost for smaller and lower risk businesses. For this reason from October 2009 the HSE set a syllabus for this one-day course covering essential life saving first aid for the workplace. This course meets all of the requirements of the syllabus as laid out in the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 (Third edition published October 2013).
Underwood Training includes as standard the addition to the syllabus of practical CPR assessment for child/drowning casualties for anyone with a duty of care to children or those working around water. This course will leave candidates confident in dealing with an emergency situation whilst awaiting the ambulance and also give a basic understanding of the impact of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 and related legislation such as RIDDOR within the workplace.
Recommended for: lower hazard and smaller sized workplaces.
